Saurabh Jethani Spoke at IGDC on Building Art Skills and Game Industry Portfolios

This year at the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC), our founder and CEO, Saurabh Jethani, delivered an inspiring talk on one of the most important topics for aspiring artists—how to build art skills and craft a portfolio that stands out in the game industry.

Drawing from his experience as a senior character artist at renowned studios like Larian Studios (Baldur’s Gate 3), Slipgate Ironworks, and Little Red Zombies (Horizon Forbidden West), Saurabh offered deep insights into the evolving expectations of game studios and the journey from student to professional.

His session, titled “Mastering the Craft: Building Game Art Skills and a Portfolio That Gets You Hired,” covered:

  • Key skillsets for modern game artists, including sculpting, texturing, and real-time presentation

  • What separates a great portfolio from a forgettable one—at junior, mid, and senior levels

  • Growth strategies for self-taught artists trying to break into the industry

  • Common mistakes artists make and how to avoid them

  • How to tell a compelling story through your portfolio

The talk resonated with students, aspiring professionals, and even working artists looking to sharpen their edge. Saurabh’s passion for teaching and mentorship was evident, continuing his larger mission through Karmaratha Studio and The Dragons Academy—to support Indian game artists with accessible, high-quality education and career-building opportunities.

We’re incredibly proud to have been a part of this year’s IGDC and look forward to sharing more knowledge, stories, and inspiration in the months to come.
